Accidental Purchase Leads to $100,000 Scratchers Prize

May. 14, 2025

A trio of Missouri Lottery players thought someone was playing a joke on them when they uncovered the first $100,000 top prize on a “Break the Bank” Scratchers ticket. The winning ticket was purchased at Gas Mart, 3751 S. Jefferson Ave., in St. Louis.

“I had actually asked for a different ticket, and the clerk accidentally gave me this one,” one of the winners laughed. “I thought it was a fake ticket at first!”

She decided to scan the ticket to see if they really won.

“When the screen showed ‘Claim your prize at a Missouri Lottery Office,’ I knew it was real!” she shared.

So far, “Break the Bank” players have won over $1.8 million since the $5 game was released April 28. More than $16.6 million in prizes remain unclaimed – including five additional top prizes of $100,000 and six $20,000 prizes.

In FY24, St. Louis City players won more than $45 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $4.4 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $36.9 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the city.
