Lucky Couple Starts Year with $50,000 Powerball Prize

Jan. 13, 2023

A Missouri couple had an exciting start to the New Year when they realized they had won a $50,000 prize in the Dec. 31 Powerball drawing on a ticket purchased at Dierbergs, 217 Salt Lick Road, in St. Peters.

“My husband actually stopped on his way home from work on New Year’s Eve,” the wife said. “And just did a Quick Pick.”

The next day, she picked up her phone to scan the ticket on the Missouri Lottery mobile app and saw the ticket was a winner.

“It didn’t say the amount,” she said. “So I went to double check it.”

She decided to go to a nearby Missouri Lottery retailer and have the clerk scan the ticket for her.

“He just said, ‘It says $50,000!” she shared. “And I just said, ‘What?’”

She quickly called her husband, who was also in disbelief.

“He had to come check it, too,” she laughed. “Neither of us could believe it!”

The winning numbers on Dec. 31 were 18, 37, 44, 50 and 64, with a Powerball number of 11. Their ticket matched four of the five white-ball numbers drawn, as well as the Powerball.

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. All current and past winning numbers can be found at MOLottery.com.

In FY22, players in St. Charles County won more than $64.3 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $6.2 in commissions and bonuses, and more than $14 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
