A Missouri Lottery player in Battlefield took another player’s advice and bought tickets for a chance to win a $1.55 billion Powerball jackpot on Oct. 9.
“’You can’t win if you don’t play!’ is what he said to me,” she recalled. “So I bought $20 worth of Powerball tickets.”
The winner shared she had purchased her tickets at White Oak Station, 5505 Highway FF in Battlefield, on an unexpected pit stop.
“It was just kind of a fluke that I stopped there,” she explained of her conversation with the stranger. “I left my drink at home and thought I’d grab a soda real quick. I was at the right place at the right time!”
Her ticket matched four of the five white-ball numbers drawn Oct. 9, plus the Powerball. The winning numbers were 16, 34, 46, 55 and 67, with a Powerball number of 14.
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is estimated at $70 million.
Players who purchased tickets in Greene County in FY23 won more than $50 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers in the county received more than $4.5 million in commissions and bonuses, and education programs received more than $27.6 million in appropriated Lottery proceeds.
