Spur-of-the-Moment Purchase Turns into $50,000 Powerball Prize

Oct. 06, 2022

A Missouri Lottery player who originally stopped at a Rolla convenience store to buy refreshments for her children made a last-minute decision to purchase a Powerball ticket. That decision ended up being worth $50,000.

The player had not realized she’d won until the next day, after seeing a Missouri Lottery Facebook post about a winning ticket sold at Dino Mart, 2003 N. Bishop in Rolla, for the Sept. 28 drawing.

“I was like, ‘Surely that wasn’t me,’” she shared.

Out of curiosity, the player took the ticket to a Missouri Lottery retailer to have it checked. It was there the clerk informed her she was a $50,000 winner.

“Holy cow! This was a big shock,” she said.

The winning number combination was 6, 10, 24, 33 and 67, with a Powerball number of 11. The player matched four out of five white-ball numbers, as well as the Powerball number drawn.

Powerball  is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.

In FY22, players in Phelps County – where the winning ticket was sold – won more than $9.4 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $833,000 in commissions and bonuses, and more than $3 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
