Scratchers Player's Dream Comes True in St. Louis

Dec. 29, 2023

“My family said the words that came out of my mouth were, ‘I've been waiting my whole life to scratch a ticket like this!’” the winner of a $50,000 Missouri Lottery prize laughed. “It's the most fun and most excited I've ever been.”

She purchased the lucky “500X” Scratchers ticket at 7-Eleven, 8000 Mackenzie Road in Affton, using winnings from a previous ticket.

“When I bought the ticket, the clerk said he’d leave some cash in the drawer in case I won,” she teased.

Back at home with family, she started to scratch her ticket.

"I scratched the three bonus boxes at the top, and all three were winners … and then every number on the ticket was a winner."

She explained she never scratches the prize amount until she’s uncovered all the numbers.

"When I scratched that first bonus spot prize to see the dollar amount, it was $1,000. And the next was $1,000, and the third was $5,000!"

In total, she revealed 35 $1,000 prizes & three $5,000 prizes – totaling $50,000.

“I went back to the 7-Eleven a few hours later, and (the clerk) asked, 'Did you win?' I said, 'Yeah - $50,000!'"

“500X” is a $50 Scratchers ticket released on May 30. The game currently offers over $181.5 million in unclaimed prizes, including two $5 million top prizes, three $1 million second prizes and 36 additional $50,000 prizes.

Players can also enter their eligible “500X” tickets into their My Lottery® Players Club accounts for a chance to win $500 cash in the “Scratch Big, Win Big!” monthly drawings.

In FY23, players in St. Louis County won more than $207.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received over $20 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $76 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
