Powerball Winner's Son Thought $50,000 Prize was a Prank

Aug. 07, 2023

A $50,000 Powerball winner in Arnold was excited to share her good news with her family – but her son didn’t react as she expected.

“It was funny,” the winner explained. “I told him, ‘You weren’t as excited as I thought you would be!’ and he goes, ‘I really thought you were pranking me!’”

Her ticket matched four of the five white-ball numbers drawn, plus the Powerball, to win a $50,000 prize in the July 24 drawing. The winning numbers were 3, 4, 12, 28 and 49, with a Powerball number of 25.

The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K, 2046 Key West Drive in Arnold, and the prize was claimed July 31 at Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City.

Tonight’s Powerball jackpot is estimated at $145 million. If the Powerball jackpot is hit, the “Jackpot Reset” promotion will be activated – giving players who buy three Powerball plays on a single ticket a free $2 Powerball ticket.

Players who purchased tickets in Jefferson County in FY22 won more than $42.1 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers in the county received more than $3.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and education programs received more than $14.5 million in appropriated Lottery proceeds.
