A reunion of relatives brought 17 Missouri Lottery players together when they decided to pool their money for a shot at the Powerball jackpot on July 8. They ended up winning a $50,000 prize.

One of the winners, and spokesperson for the group, explained, “We were at a family reunion and 17 of us decided to participate – and quite a few others didn’t.”

Their ticket, purchased at Casey’s General Store, 711 S. Hughes St. in Hamilton, matched four of the five white-ball numbers, plus the Powerball number drawn, to win a base prize of $50,000.

“It was a surprise!” she recalled. “My aunt thought we were teasing her.”

After they verified the winning ticket and prize amount, the ticket was quickly secured until the group could claim their prize.

“I slept with the ticket in my billfold, in the safe, underneath the bed until we got to claim it!” she laughed.

The winning numbers drawn in the July 8 drawing are: 7, 23, 24, 32 and 43, with a Powerball of 18.

Tonight’s Powerball jackpot is estimated at $95 million.

Players who purchased tickets in Caldwell County in FY22 won more than $1.1 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers in the county received more than $113,000 in commissions and bonuses, and education programs received more than $187,000 in appropriated Lottery proceeds.
