It was a break to remember when a Missouri Lottery player and her coworker decided to stop at On the Run, 3225 Hampton Ave. in St. Louis, to grab a couple of Lottery tickets to pass the time while on a break at work.
“We grabbed the tickets and went to sit in the car to scratch them,” the winner said. “I was scratching, and it felt like I went to sleep almost and when I woke up I won $50,000!”
Her coworker, thinking she was joking, grabbed the ticket to look it over.
“She was like, ‘You’re so hilarious. Give me the ticket!’” the winner said. “She was just laughing!”
The laughter quickly faded into shock as her coworker read the ticket and put together the fact that she was right.
“I was like, ‘Keep laughing!’” the winner joked. “We were hopping around!”
So far, “Crossword Plus” players have won over $7.2 million in prizes playing the $3 game, with over $8.4 million remaining in unclaimed prizes. There are currently five more top prizes of $50,000 still unclaimed.
Players who purchased tickets in St. Louis City in FY24 won more than $45 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers received more than $4.4 million in commissions and bonuses, and education programs in the county received more than $36.9 million in appropriated Lottery proceeds.
