A Missouri Lottery player couldn’t believe his luck when his best friend gave him a “Crossword Xtreme” Scratchers ticket that revealed a $50,000 top prize.
“My best friend for over 50 years had come by with some Scratchers and told me, ‘here, pick one,’ and I did,” the winner shared.
He waited until later that evening to play the ticket. When he quickly realized the prizes added up to $50,000, he was eager to share the news with his lifelong friend.
“I walked across the street, and I beat on his door and got him out of bed,” he explained. “Then I told him, ‘Well, here. Look at this, man.’”
After carefully looking over the winning ticket, his friend stated, “You know what, we have to call the Lottery.”
The winner shared plans to use some of the winnings to pay it forward and help out his longtime friend.
“His vehicle just broke down, so I’m gonna take care of that for him.”
The winning ticket was sold at ZH & Sons LLC, 4225 N. Oak Trafficway, in Kansas City.
“Crossword Xtreme” is a $3 game that currently offers over $14.2 million in unclaimed prizes, including nine more top prizes of $50,000.
In FY22, players in Clay County won more than $30.5 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $2.7 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $5 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
