An “Emerald 8s” Scratchers ticket purchased at On the Run, 11152 Manchester Road in Kirkwood, led to an $88,888 top prize for one lucky Missouri Lottery player.
“I had won like $20 on a ticket the week before, so I used that money to buy this ticket,” the winner explained.
She scratched it off when she got home, but she had trouble seeing what she had won at first.
“I had to put my reading glasses on because I’m like, ‘Does that say what I think it says?’” she said. “I didn’t believe it. I thought something wasn’t right.”
In her disbelief, she took the ticket back to the store to have a clerk check it for her.
“They checked it and confirmed it,” she shared. “And the guy there was so excited, he gave me a fist bump!”
So far, “Emerald 8s” players have won over $10 million in prizes playing the $5 game. Over $4.5 million remain in unclaimed prizes, including two more top prizes of $88,888.
In FY23, players in St. Louis County won more than $207.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $20 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $76 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
