$100,000 Powerball Win ‘Came at the Right Time’

Feb. 21, 2023

A Missouri Lottery player has claimed a $100,000 Powerball prize from the Feb. 4 drawing after his handpicked combination of numbers gave him the win on a ticket purchased at QuikTrip, 2600 Chouteau Ave., in St. Louis.

“The numbers are actually a combo of (special) days,” he said. “And the final number was 42, which is a nerdy reference.”

Though the 42 didn’t match, the winning ticket did match four out of the five white-ball numbers drawn, as well as the Powerball number, to win a base prize of $50,000. Since he included the Power Play option on his ticket, it was doubled to a $100,000 prize when the Power Play number drawn was 2.

When he realized how much he had won, he instantly told his wife, but she didn’t believe him at first.

“She just looked at me like, ‘Are you messing with me?’” he laughed.

He went on to say the timing of the win could not have been better.

“It came at the right time,” he explained. “We’ve had a rough couple of months, so this just helps balance some of that out.”

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. The winning numbers on Feb. 4 were 2, 8, 15, 19 and 58, with a Powerball number of 10. All current and past winning numbers can be found at MOLottery.com.

In FY22, players in St. Louis City won more than $46.6 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $4.7 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $9.4 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
