A Missouri Lottery player won a $100,000 top prize on a “Break the Bank” Scratchers ticket she purchased at Casey’s, 4208 S. Noland Road, in Independence.

“I stopped to pick up a pizza for dinner and got some Scratchers for me and my husband,” the winner explained. “I usually play the $10 tickets because of the higher prizes. but I decided to switch it up and get some of the $5 tickets.”

That turned out to be a lucky decision.

She recalled they were eating dinner when she scratched the first row on her ticket and spotted the “5X” symbol that would automatically increase the prize by five times.

“I saw the five-times and then the $20,000 prize and handed the ticket over to my husband and said, ‘Babe, tell me I’m not trippin!’” she laughed. “He looked at it and said, ‘Are you serious? Are you serious?’”

To date, “Break the Bank” players have claimed over $16.6 million in prizes since the game was released. One additional $100,000 prize remains unclaimed.

During FY25 players in Jackson County won more than $96.8 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $8.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $31.6 million in Lottery proceeds went to educational programs in the county.
