Powerball Player in Greene County Discovers $50,000 Powerball Prize

Apr 27, 2026

A Missouri Lottery player won a $50,000 Powerball prize in the March 21 drawing –  though he wouldn’t find out until several weeks later.

“We’ve never won, and he didn’t check the ticket before we went on vacation, so we didn’t even know we had won!” the winner’s wife shared. “About a month later, after work, my husband checked it and that’s when we found out.”

She went on to explain that it wasn’t just the discovery of the win that held a fun story; the day the ticket was purchased was unusual, as well.

“The store was having an Easter Egg hunt and our granddaughter was with us so we were wasting some time,” she said. “She may not have found “the golden egg,” but I guess in a way we did because we won the Lottery!”

The Quick Pick ticket purchased at Walmart, 1923 E. Kearney St. in Springfield, matched four of the five white-ball numbers along with the Powerball. The winning numbers that night were 12, 28, 36, 41 and 59 with a Powerball number of 2.

Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.

During FY25, players in Greene County won more than $41.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $4 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $15.9 million in Lottery proceeds went to educational programs in the county.
