A clerk at Casey’s, 119 N. Highway 169 in Smithville, was the first to alert a Missouri Lottery player that he’d won an $87,000 Show Me Cash jackpot prize.

“I walked in, and the clerk was saying that someone won the jackpot there the night before,” he said. “And I wondered if it was me.”

He had purchased the winning ticket there on the day of Jan. 27 drawing and returned to check it the next day.

“She scanned it and started tearing up, and then I was also tearing up,” he laughed. “It was pretty crazy!”

He already has plans for what he’s going to do with the prize money.

“I think I’m going to take my grandkids on vacation,” he said.  

The winning numbers on Jan. 28 were 10, 22, 28, 30 and 38. 

Show Me Cash drawings are held daily at 9:59 p.m., with jackpots starting at $50,000 and continue to grow until won. Tonight’s estimated jackpot is $55,000.

In FY25, players in Clay County won more than $39.3 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $2.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $17.2 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
