Group of 27 Teachers Splits $50,000 Powerball Prize

Jan 29, 2026

A group of Kansas City area teachers won a $50,000 prize on a Powerball ticket purchased at Casey’s, 1202 N. 7 Highway, in Blue Springs.

“We play together sometimes when the jackpot gets high,” a representative of the group said.

The ticket – purchased for the Dec. 20 drawing, which offered a $1.5 billion jackpot – matched four out of five white-ball numbers, as well as the Powerball number. The prize was claimed several weeks later.

“It was kind of unbelievable. It took a minute to sink in,” the representative added.

The winning numbers that night were 4, 5, 28, 52 and 69 with a Powerball number of 20.

Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Saturday’s drawing has an estimated jackpot of $57 million.

In FY25, players in Jackson County won more than $96.8 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $8.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $31.6 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
