The Missouri Powerball player who won half of a $1.787 billion jackpot on Sept. 6 said he plans to take time off and enjoy the experience. The win also gives him the distinction of claiming the largest prize ever won by a Missouri Lottery player.

“I’m going to just do me for a year,” the winner said, adding that he’s looking forward to spending time with his wife, who now also plans to reduce her workload as a result of the win.

“I’m like a homebody. The perfect day is sitting at home doing what I do – relaxing,” he said, before thoughts went back to his wife.

“She’s going to drag me out of town now,” he laughed.

While claiming his prize at Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City, he noted such a large win was still hard to fathom.

“I’m a millionaire, a multi-millionaire, and I’m doing laundry last night…” he shared, still in disbelief.

“It’s the best problem I’ve ever had,” he continued, describing the sleepless nights between the time he realized his ticket was a winner and the day he made the trip to Jefferson City.

The Quick Pick ticket he purchased at QuikTrip, 12100 Lusher Road in St. Louis, was one of two tickets nationwide to match all six numbers drawn on Sept. 6. Each ticketholder won approximately $893.5 million pre-tax, with the option to claim the full prize amount over 30 payments or to receive one lump-sum payment of roughly half the jackpot amount. The Missouri winner chose the one-time payment of about $410.3 million.

Thanks to Missouri Powerball sales throughout the record 42-drawing jackpot run, approximately $16.9 million was raised for Missouri public education. During the same time period, Missouri businesses also earned $2.5 million in commissions for selling the game. In addition, QuikTrip received a $50,000 bonus for selling the jackpot winning ticket.
