Winner’s Brother Thought $50,000 Powerball Win was a Prank

Dec 29, 2023

A Quick Pick ticket led a Missouri Lottery player to a $50,000 Powerball prize in the Dec. 4 drawing on a ticket purchased at QuikTrip, 6312 S. Lindbergh Blvd., in Green Park.

“I had just randomly bought some tickets, so I was checking them and one of them said, ‘Claim at the Lottery office,’ and I thought, ‘What the heck?’” he said.

He called his brother to tell him about the ticket, but he was met with disbelief.

“He was like, ‘Get out of here! That’s not real!” the winner shared.

The winning numbers that night were 18, 19, 27, 28 and 45 with a Powerball number of 9.  His winning ticket matched four out of the five white-ball numbers, as well as the Powerball, to win – something he instantly noticed.

“The kicker was I had four out of five of the white-ball numbers and the one I missed was 27. I had 26! It was so close!” he said.

Nevertheless, he was excited about his $50,000 prize and said he plans to save most of the money and use the rest to pay off bills.

Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.

In FY23, players in St. Louis County won more than $207.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $20 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $76 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
