“I’m that guy that never wins. That’s not true anymore!” the winner of a top prize in the Missouri Lottery’s “Power 5s” Scratchers game exclaimed.

“I usually buy the smaller tickets, but I had a five-dollar bill on me and I just thought, ‘Those blue 5s look good,’” he recalled.

After purchasing his $5 “Power 5s” ticket at FastLane, 1013 West Blvd. in Columbia, he scratched and matched nearly every number on his ticket.

“The only number I missed had a $5 prize next to it. That one kind of tickled me,” he laughed.

He shared plans to use some of the winnings to put toward retirement.

“I’m just a simple guy,” he added. “It’s exciting! Very helpful and useful. I’m trying to contain myself.”

His ticket was the second $100,000 top-prize winner to date on a “Power 5s” Scratchers ticket. Three more $100,000 remain unclaimed in the game, as well as three prizes of $25,000.

In FY23, players in Boone County won more than $26.1 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $2.4 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $56.2 million in Lottery proceeds went to educational programs in the county.
