KC Powerball Winner Doubles $50,000 Prize with Power Play Feature

A Missouri Lottery player was in for a big surprise when he purchased a Powerball ticket with the Power Play add-on feature for the Sept. 23 drawing, and won a prize worth $100,000.

“I looked at my ticket Sunday morning, and I had four numbers. I thought I’d won $200,” he shared.

The winner’s sister stopped by later that morning to double-check the winning numbers on the Missouri Lottery website, and she realized his ticket matched four of the five white-ball numbers drawn – plus the Powerball – to win a base prize of $50,000. Because he had also added Power Play to his ticket, the prize amount instantly doubled to $100,000 when the Power Play number drawn was 2.

“As long as I’ve been playing, that’s the first time I’ve won an amount, and I was really excited. But it did not soak in until a couple days ago,” the winner shared.

The winning ticket was purchased at Everyday Mart, 5401 Blue Parkway, in Kansas City. The winning numbers drawn on Sept. 23 were 1, 12, 20, 33 and 66, with a Powerball of 21.

Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot is estimated at $1.2 billion – the third-highest ever offered in the game. If the Powerball jackpot is hit, the “Jackpot Reset” promotion will be activated – giving players who buy three Powerball plays on a single ticket a free $2 Powerball ticket.

In FY23, players in Jackson County won more than $108.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $9.9 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $15.5 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
