Powerball Winner Says 'You've Gotta See This!'

Jan 18, 2023

A Missouri Lottery player won a $50,000 Powerball prize in Raytown and couldn’t wait to share the good news with his supervisor.

“I said to my boss, ‘You’ve gotta see this!’ he recalled. “She even asked if it was real!”

He shared plans to keep working, but he said he will pay off his car with the winnings.

"I was in shock. It was pretty exciting," he laughed.

The winning ticket was purchased at QuikTrip, 8733 E. 63rd St., in Raytown. It matched four of the five white-ball numbers, plus the Powerball, to win a $50,000 prize in the Oct. 5, 2022, drawing. The winner claimed his prize on Jan. 3.

Tonight’s Powerball jackpot is estimated at $439 million. If the Powerball jackpot is hit, the “Jackpot Reset” promotion will be activated – giving players who buy three Powerball plays on a single ticket a free $2 Powerball ticket.

Players who purchased tickets in Jackson County in FY22 won more than $103.1 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers in the county received more than $9.3 million in commissions and bonuses in FY22, and education programs received more than $50.2 million in appropriated Lottery proceeds.
