A Missouri Lottery player who won a $100,000 top prize on the “$100,000 Fortune” Scratchers game was seconds away from trashing the winning ticket. 

“I didn’t think I won anything,” she said of the ticket she purchased at Hy-Vee, 310 S.W. Ward Road, in Lee’s Summit.

Luckily, the winner decided to take a second look at the ticket with a family member before tossing it. 

“My daughter-in-law said, ‘You won $100,000!’” she recounted. “I would have thrown the ticket away if she hadn’t been there, to tell you the truth.”

The winner shared plans to use some of the winnings to purchase a vehicle.

“$100,000 Fortune” is a $5 game that offers prizes from $5 up to $100,000. The game has over $9.9 million remaining in unclaimed prizes, including two additional top prizes of $100,000 and three $20,000 prizes.

In the FY22, players who purchased tickets in Jackson County won more than $103.1 million in total Missouri Lottery prizes. Retailers in the county received more than $9.3 million in commissions and bonuses, and education programs in the county received more than $50.2 million in appropriated Lottery proceeds.
