The A+ Scholarship is a program funded in part by the Missouri Lottery that helps thousands of students receive up to two years of tuition to a community college or technical school. The program has been going strong for nearly two decades now, so we wanted to take a look at the impact the A+ Scholarship has had on Missouri.

We reached out to A+ graduates and educators to get their stories on how the A+ Scholarship opportunity played a role in their success. We were overwhelmed by the responses. Below are just four of the many stories of how the A+ Scholarship, funded by players like you, has touched lives all over our great state.

“I truly feel like every day I’m giving back to my community.”
A+ Scholarship Graduate, Class of 2003

Born and raised in Missouri, Amanda Joggerst is a hometown girl, a fitness enthusiast and a new Mom. She’s also an A+ Scholarship success story.

The A+ Scholarship is an opportunity for high school students to receive two free years of college funded by the Missouri Lottery. Part of the requirement to receive the funding is to perform 50 hours of tutoring, and that is where Amanda found her passion for giving back to her community. Tutoring elementary school students in math inspired Amanda to make a career out of helping others. Using her passion for fitness, Amanda got a degree in Health Science, and now works as a wellness coordinator for retirement homes keeping seniors in her community active and happy.

“I didn’t realize that the players of the Missouri Lottery actually help fund the A+ Program.”
A+ Scholarship Graduate, Class of 2001

Ashley went into high school with aspirations of getting into politics until she signed up for the A+ Scholarship.

In order to receive the two years of paid community college tuition offered by the A+ Scholarship program, Ashley had to complete 50 hours of tutoring and mentoring in a classroom. It was there that she found her love of teaching. Today, Ashley is a beloved preschool teacher, and - believe it or not - a local news anchor for the Lake of the Ozarks community.

“Coming out of high school, I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do.”
A+ Scholarship Graduate, Class of 2002

Like many high school students, Casey didn’t know what he wanted to do for a career.

By signing up for the A+ Scholarship, Casey was able to get two years of community college tuition paid, giving him time to find his calling in the medical profession. Casey has just wrapped up his final year of residency and is looking to practice as a doctor of physical medicine and rehabilitation in Missouri.

“Every time someone purchases a ticket, they need to know the positive impact they’re having.”
Teachers & Farmer, Eldon, MO

As a teacher for the last 26 years, Rick has seen the positive impact the A+ scholarship has had.

It's given students two years of community college tuition since its inception. But perhaps the most powerful thing Rick witnessed is the scholarship being there for his community when the recession took its toll. He wants Missouri Lottery players to remember the impact every ticket has on local communities like his.
