$50,000 Powerball Prize in Kansas City Claimed a Day Before It Was Set to Expire

Apr. 05, 2024

Luck was on the side of a Missouri Lottery player when he saw the news that a Powerball prize from the Sept. 30, 2023, drawing was about to expire. Knowing he had tickets from that drawing, he checked them against the winning numbers.

“We checked the tickets and we saw we had it,” he said. “We were nervously excited. We checked the numbers a bunch of times.”

The Quick Pick ticket, purchased at QuikTrip, 4380 N.W. 90th St. in Kansas City, matched four out of five white-ball numbers drawn, as well as the Powerball number to win the $50,000 prize.

Conscious of the deadline approaching, he said he and his wife quickly claimed the prize at the Missouri Lottery’s Kansas City regional office on March 28 – the last day before the ticket would have reached its 180th day expiration date.

“It doesn’t feel real yet,” he added.

The winning numbers on Sept. 30 were 19, 30, 37, 44 and 46 with a Powerball number of 22.

Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Saturday’s Powerball drawing is estimated at $1.23 billion – the fourth-highest jackpot in the game’s history.

In FY23, players in Platte County won more than $15.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $1.3 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $1 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
