ST. JOSEPH MAN WINS $100,000 POWERBALL PRIZE

A cup of Joe and a Missouri Lottery Powerball ticket brought a St. Joseph man a $100,000 windfall on Feb. 5.   Kenneth "Kenny" Aitkens, 34, said he bought his winning ticket at Shop & Hop, 6101 N. Belt Highway in St. Joseph when he stopped in for some coffee.  He selected the winning numbers at random.  They were:  2, 5, 7, 9 and 48.

Aitkens said he was out of state when he found out he had won a big prize.

"My mom called and told me," he said.  "I was in California."

Aitkens said he travels with his job as a supervisor for Herzog Contracting, a company that contracts work to railroads.

For now, Aitkens said his only plan for the money is to put it in the bank.

To date, 639 Powerball tickets sold in Missouri have matched all five white-ball numbers drawn to win the $100,000 prize.
