TWO FINALISTS WIN $50,000 IN WHEEL SPIN

Story Photo video icon A 42-year-old Springfield man and a 60-year-old Maplewood man both can add $50,000 to their net worth after participating in the Missouri Lottery’s eighth "Fun & Fortune Wheel Spin" held at 2 p.m. today in Jefferson City.  Curtis Garrison of Springfield and John Barlow of Maplewood said they only submitted one entry into the drawing.

"My boss gave me my ticket," said Garrison, who works at Express Lane, 715 W. College in Springfield and attends Ozark Technical Community College.   "She’s the best manager I ever had!"

Garrison said his boss, Mary Cunningham, handed him the entry ticket since she said she didn’t have any luck in the past with the entry ticket drawings.  Cunningham purchased the entry ticket she gave Garrison at Break Time, 2740 E. Kearney in Springfield.

Garrison said he plans to use his prize money to pay back student loans, do some home repairs and buy a new pick-up truck.  He also plans to buy his boss a new printer for her new computer, after an accident ruined it.

John Barlow of Maplewood plans to use his $50,000 in winnings for a trip to Las Vegas.   He also plans to give some money to his only son.  Barlow, who works at a machine shop in Shrewsbury, bought his winning entry ticket at Shop N Save in Maplewood.

In addition to Garrison and Barlow’s big wins, two other contestants won cash prizes in the Wheel Spin.  Hubert Cunningham, 70, of Montgomery City and Faye McClaine, 65, of St. Louis (Oakville) each won $2,500.

Cunningham, who is retired, bought his winning entry ticket at Brad’s Store in Sturgeon.  He plans to use some of his winnings to buy a grave marker for his deceased wife’s grave.

Faye McClaine, who is a homemaker, purchased her winning entry ticket at Schnucks Market, 5519 Oakville Shopping Center in St. Louis.   She said she probably will spend her winnings on her five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to the prize money won through the actual Wheel Spin event, the contestants also received a check for $500 for being selected as a finalist.

The "Fun & Fortune Wheel Spin" replaced the televised "Fun & Fortune" game show.   For a chance to win $500 and a chance to spin the wheel, players need to buy a $2 "Fun & Fortune" wheel spin Scratchers ticket.  If the ticket is a winner and the prize is "ENTRY," the ticket should be mailed to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City to be placed in a weekly drawing.  Each week, 10 of these "ENTRY" tickets are drawn, and those winners receive $500.   In addition, one of these 10 preliminary winners will be drawn for a chance to spin the wheel and win up to $250,000.   The smallest amount a player can win in the Wheel Spin is $2,500.

The "Fun & Fortune Wheel Spin" is open to the public.   It is also streamed on the Lottery’s Web site for players to watch from anywhere in the world.
