LOTTERY MAKES RECORD PROCEEDS TRANSFER

The Missouri Lottery today transferred $23.5 million in proceeds to the Lottery Proceeds Fund, making it the largest monthly transfer based on sales in the Lottery’s 17-year history.   The record transfer can be attributed to the record Powerball jackpot of $314 million on Christmas day. 

"That jackpot run - from October though December - produced more than $12 million in proceeds from the Powerball game alone," said Gary Gonder, director of communications for the Missouri Lottery. 

This month’s transfer of $23,570,951 brings the total proceeds to the state in fiscal year 2003 to more than $112 million.   Since the Lottery began in 1986, it has provided the state, including education, more than $1.9 billion.

Approximately 27.5 cents of every dollar spent playing the Lottery goes to education.   The Missouri Lottery’s annual contribution to public education is more than 3 percent of education’s total annual funding.
