Beginner’s luck never paid off in a big way for Micheal Marks of Patton, that is, until he tried a Missouri Lottery “50X The Cash” Scratchers ticket for the first time on Jan. 19.

“I went to the Perryville Motomart to get gas and got a couple $1 tickets,” said Marks, who purchased his gas and tickets from the Motomart convenience store located at 1300 S. Perryville Blvd. in Perryville.

“I won $10 on one of those and brought it back in to get a $10 ticket. I picked the ‘50X’ because I had never played it before.”

Marks would wait to play his Scratchers ticket until after he returned home. When he matched one number in the game, he was eager to reveal what he thought was a nice prize.

“I saw $100 and got excited. Then I saw a comma,” said Marks.

The Patton resident was slow to accept the reality of his $100,000 win, going as far as habitually checking his ticket that night.

“I hardly slept. I just kept checking it to make sure I actually won,” said Marks.

A heavy machinery operator, Marks claimed his $100,000 prize the following day. The 37-year-old Patton resident plans to pay bills with his prize, adding that the financial relief from not paying bills in the future will allow him to do something fun.

Marks is the first Missouri Lottery player to claim one of 16 available $100,000 prizes in the “50X The Cash” Scratchers game. Introduced on Dec. 27, 2016, the $10 Scratchers ticket has more than $34.6 million in total prizes remaining, including all three $1 million top prizes.
