Raymore Wife Turns Husband's $10 Into $593,000

Bobbi Schaffner of Raymore plays Show Me Cash on a regular basis. So it was no different on Jan. 9, when she decided to buy some Show Me Cash tickets on her lunch hour.
“The Saturday night before, I had checked my husband’s tickets, and he won $10,” said Schaffner. “I was folding his work shirt, and the pocket felt weird. So I looked in it and found the $10. I thought, ‘I’ll teach him’, because he always says I will never win.”

Schaffner used the $10 to buy $5 worth of Show Me Cash tickets for the Jan. 9 jackpot worth $593,000. But she didn’t immediately check her tickets that night. She actually never checks them unless she sees an address for one of her regular stops on the unclaimed prizes page at MOLottery.com.

“If it isn’t a place I buy from, I am not going to go rooting around through all my tickets,” said Schaffner. “So while I was checking the Pick 4 midday numbers, I decided I better check the unclaimed prizes. Then I saw it was the place I go on my lunch hour every day, and I thought, ‘Oh, no. Who did that?’ I even called them to let them know, and they kept saying it was probably me.”

That is when Schaffner decided it was time to check her recently purchased Show Me Cash tickets. She used Quick Pick to select the five numbers on her winning ticket, which were: 5-11-14-15-36 for the Jan. 9 drawing.
“I told my husband I won,” said Schaffner. “Both of us couldn’t sleep that night. We kept waking up off and on saying, ‘Well, I want to do this’ or ‘How about this?’”

After dreaming about what to with the money, they came to a few decisions.

“We want to put all new windows in the house,” said Schaffner. “Then we will pay off the house and some medical bills, and my husband wants a mowing tractor.”

Schaffner purchased the winning ticket at Martin City Food Mart, 125 W. 135th St., in Kansas City. She claimed her ticket on Jan. 11 at the Kansas City regional office.

The Show Me Cash jackpot rolled for 18 days before Schaffner’s winning ticket on Jan. 9. She is the 440th Show Me Cash jackpot winner but the first in 2017. Martin City Food Mart received a $500 bonus check for selling the winning ticket.
