Fenton Man Wins Big on Show Me Cash

On Dec. 16, Stephen Swast of Fenton was on his way home when he decided to stop at a convenience store for a soda. While he was there, he went ahead and picked up a Show Me Cash ticket for that night’s drawing.

“It’s everyday routine because I always play,” said Swast. “I spend $5 on Show Me Cash every day. Then on Tuesday, Wednesay, Friday and Saturday, I play Powerball and Mega Millions. I have a set budget, and I am not going to go overboard.”

Swast finally got around to checking his ticket that weekend at a gas station.

“I didn’t check it until the following Sunday,” said Swast, an avid Lottery player. “I used one of those self-readers, and it said ‘lottery office.’ I have never seen anything like that before, so I went up to the counter.”

Swast learned from the cashier he had just won the Dec. 16, 2016, Show Me Cash jackpot of $124,000. The cashier noticed Swast hadn’t signed his ticket yet and advised him to do so immediately. Swast then decided to keep the news to himself and wait until he could find some time during his busy work schedule to turn it in.

“I guess it was my day to win big,” said Swast.

Swast purchased his winning Show Me Cash ticket at Circle K, 2285 S. Old Highway 141, in Fenton. He then visited the Lottery’s St. Louis regional office on Jan. 6 to claim his prize.
In 2016, Show Me Cash produced 52 jackpot winners with an average prize of more than $158,000.
