Warrenton Couple Scores $50,000 Win

When a man’s wife approaches him with a serious look on her face and tells him they need to talk, any number of scenarios might leap to mind. But for Kevin Mattison and his wife, Holly Norton-Mattison, of Warrenton, the news was all good. The couple won $50,000 playing Show Me Cash with the Missouri Lottery.

Though Kevin had purchased the ticket, it was Holly who later checked it and determined it was a winner. Her next move was to break the news to her husband.

“I was actually on our front porch doing some painting, and she’d come out and said, ‘Kevin, I need for you to come over here and sit down,’” Mattison explained. “So we sat down on the porch together, and she told me, and I was like, ‘Wow. Are you kidding me?”

When asked about potential plans for the $50,000 prize, Mattison knew the answer right away.

“Well, you know, we’re at that age,” he said. “It’s going to be retirement.”

While the Mattisons didn’t claim their prize until January, the win actually came from a Quick Pick selection purchased for the Oct. 1, 2016, drawing at Casey’s General Store, 601 S. Highway 47, in Warrenton. The winning Show Me Cash numbers for that night were:  6, 10, 23, 34 and 37.

Show Me Cash is a $1 daily Draw Game with a jackpot that starts at $50,000 and grows until someone wins. In 2016, there were 52 winning jackpot tickets with an average prize of more than $158,230.

In the most recent fiscal year, players in Warren County won more than $3 million in Missouri Lottery prizes. An additional $755,000 from Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county, and $355,000 was paid in retailer incentives.
