A Dixon man will celebrate the holidays a little richer after scratching off a $50,000 prize on a "Crossword" Scratchers ticket he purchased Dec. 20. Gregory Swain, 44, said he purchased the $3 "Crossword" ticket last week at the same time his wife was buying Powerball tickets at CB’s Mini Mart, 14130 Highway Z in Waynesville. Later that night, while being "confined" to his bedroom while his daughter had a Christmas party at their house, he scratched the ticket and thought he had matched nine words for a $500 prize. After finding two more letters, he realized it was worth $50,000.
"It will be a free Christmas for us," said Swain’s wife, Jennifer.
Swain, who is a soldier for the U.S. Army, said he plans to use the money to pay off a few bills and put the rest in savings. He may also get a computer that he’s always wanted.
The Missouri Lottery’s $3 "Crossword" game officially started Oct. 12.
