Hunter Scores $100,000 Scratchers Prize Instead of Deer

An annual bow-hunting trip in northeast Missouri yielded no deer for an Alabama resident, but a $100,000 Missouri Lottery prize made the trip more than worthwhile.

“I lease land up in northeast Missouri from a guy I met through work,” said Woodrow Hicks Jr. of Oxford, Alabama. “I came up to bow hunt for the week.”

While claiming his $100,000 prize on Dec. 7, Hicks, 40, said that he enjoys playing games from different state lotteries while traveling, since Alabama doesn’t offer a lottery. In fact, during his week-long stay in Missouri, Hicks won $500 and $40 prizes in addition to his $100,000 prize.

“I stopped by the store to get gas and turn in a $40 ticket,” said Hicks, who chose to purchase a $20 “$4,000,000 Payout” Scratchers ticket from Country Market Express, 106 E. Main St., in Lewistown. “I played it later that night and had to stare at the ticket for a bit. I matched one number with a $100,000 prize.”

Hicks made a pit stop to the Lottery’s St. Louis regional office while on his way home to Alabama to claim his prize. By that time, Hicks had shared the good news with his wife, both of whom were eager to pay bills and pad their savings account.
Introduced on Sept. 8, 2015, “$4,000,000 Payout” is a $20 Scratchers game with more than $48 million in total prizes remaining, including two $4 million top prizes. Hicks claimed one of 16 $100,000 second-tier prizes offered in the game. All remaining Scratchers prizes can be found here at MOLottery.com.
