Man's Trip to Missouri Pays Off

Justin Adams, 45, offered to come up from Florida to help his older brother on a construction job. He didn’t know the short time he would spend in Missouri would change his life and help grow his new business back home in Wildwood, Florida.

Adams won the Nov. 16 Show Me Cash jackpot of $89,000 after purchasing several tickets using Quick Pick.

“My brother and I decided to buy some tickets on our lunch break,” said the former Missouri resident. “I usually play the big games like Mega Millions or Powerball, but decided to get $20 worth of the Show Me Cash.”

Adams mentioned he has never won anything more than $10 before, so he and his brother let a couple days pass before checking their tickets.

“We were at a restaurant in Soulard when we decided to check our tickets yesterday,” said Adams, while claiming his prize on Nov. 18. “We handed them to the lady, and when she got to this ticket, she said, ‘Are you flipping kidding me?’ and told me I had won $89,000! It’s very surreal.”

Adams is a former Marine who currently works construction jobs, but he has recently started his own gourmet barbecue sauces and dry rubs.

“I just got my first sauce to production, and I will put a portion towards getting my second sauce into production,” said Adams, explaining the plans he has for his winnings. “This business is my retirement plan.”

Adams planned to head home earlier that week, but not before he picked up another $20 worth of Show Me Cash tickets.

“Hey, you never know,” he laughed, “Lightening can strike twice.”

Adams purchased the winning ticket at Trueman’s Sports Bar, 1818 Sidney St., in St. Louis.

First introduced in 2008, Show Me Cash has created more than 430 winners with jackpots ranging from $50,000 to $988,000. In fact, in 2016 alone, 47 Show Me Cash jackpots have been won by Missouri Lottery players, with an average jackpot of more than $161,000.
