$250,000 Win Brings Holiday Joy to Lathrop Family

Saturday, Nov. 12, had already proved to be a lucky day for Steven Huitt, 69, when a $20 Missouri Lottery win ended up being $40.

“I thought I had a $20 winner and was planning on buying my usual Powerball and Show Me Cash tickets with that, but when the clerk ran the ticket it was actually $40,” said Huitt. “I was going to just take the extra $20, but then decided to buy two of the $10 holiday Scratchers tickets.”

Huitt’s day was about to become even more special after returning home to play his two “Holiday Diamonds” Scratchers tickets.

“The first one wasn’t a winner, and it wasn’t until the last line of the second ticket when I matched one number,” said Huit. “I figured it was $10, but when I scratched the prize, it was $250,000. I had to yell at my wife to come take a look.”

Huitt claimed his top prize on Nov. 14, but not after first returning to the Fast Break, 101 Center Street in Lathrop, where he bought the ticket to have it checked by the store’s clerk.

“I have three children and eight grandchildren. We are going to have a very merry, merry Christmas,” said Huitt.

Holiday Diamonds” is the Missouri Lottery’s $10 holiday-themed Scratchers ticket with more than $8 million in total prizes remaining. All non-winning holiday Scratchers tickets and eligible Draw Games tickets can be entered into players’ My Lottery account for entry into the “Second Chance of a Lifetime: Yuletide Seaside” promotion.
