Kurt Krigbaum generally likes to try his hand at the $1 or $2 tickets whenever he plays Missouri Lottery Scratchers games, but a deviation from that routine led the Hannibal man to a surprising win. Krigbaum, 51, won $20,000 on the “Diamond Dollars” ticket he purchased at Pick-A-Dilly, 2610 St. Marys Ave. in Hannibal, on Nov. 5.

“It was just something different,” he said of his decision to play that particular game that day.

He also shared that he might have gotten “a little teary-eyed’ at the mini celebration, which included a hug from the store’s cashier, when he went back into the store and scanned the ticket several times to verify his win.

Krigbaum’s girlfriend, Peggy, teased, “I’m just glad you weren’t so cheap this time and went for the $5 ticket! (He) finally let loose of $5, and look what happened!”

Diamond Dollars” is a $5 game that started Aug. 29. More than $12.4 million in prizes are still available in the game, including four top prizes of $100,000. Remaining prizes for all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be tracked at MOLottery.com.
