When Denny Griggs’ prizes on a Missouri Lottery “Bingo Night” Scratchers ticket totaled $55,558, he had to wait all day until his girlfriend, Becky, got home from work to share the news of the win with her.
“She walked in, and I asked her if we were the real deal and that she wouldn’t leave me no matter what,” chuckled Griggs, while claiming his prize at Lottery Headquarters on Oct. 6.
“I yelled at him asking if he was cheating on me,” quipped Becky. “He showed me the ticket and I started running around the house yelling, ‘Is this thing real?’”

Much to his girlfriend’s surprise, Griggs’ $3 Scratchers ticket was real, and so was the $55,558 top prize he uncovered.

Luckily for the bingo-inspired Scratchers ticket enthusiast, the first convenience store Griggs visited didn’t have the “Bingo Nights” ticket in stock. His second attempt to locate the game brought him to The Pit Stop, 13101 N. Route B in Hallsville, where Griggs purchased the winning ticket.

The first purchase with the $55,558 prize will be a new handicap-accessible van for Griggs, who has been driving the same 1977 GMC van, lovingly referred to as “The Scooby-Doo Van,” for years.
“I might need a new pair of shoes, too,” laughed Becky. “This really couldn’t have happened to a better or more deserving person.”

Bingo Night” is a $3 Scratchers ticket that was introduced on May 23. More than $5 million in prizes remain in the game. A list of prizes yet to be claimed can be found here at MOLottery.com.
