$100,000 Prize Won in Grocery Store

Bread, milk, butter and a $100,000 Missouri Lottery Scratchers prize were on a Leeton woman’s shopping list on Sept. 17. Almost every Saturday, Anita Nussbaum goes grocery shopping at Golden Valley Country Mart, 1405 E. Ohio St. in Clinton, and will typically purchase a few Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets to play while she’s shopping.

“It’s just something to pass the time while I’m there,” said Nussbaum. “I picked the "Diamond Dollars" Scratchers ticket because it was a newer ticket.”

Nussbaum was walking through the aisles of the grocery store with her mother, sister and her sister’s granddaughter when she uncovered what she thought was a $100,000 prize on the ticket’s “Scratch My Back” feature.

“I matched all the symbols, and the prizes kept adding up. I didn’t have my glasses on, so I gave the ticket to my sister, her eyes got big, and she said, ‘Let’s get out of here right now,’” recalled Nussbaum.

At the time of claiming the prize at the Lottery’s Kansas City regional office on Sept. 19, Nussbaum had no plans for her $100,000 prize.
Introduced on Aug. 29, “Diamond Dollars” is a $5 Scratchers game offering prizes of up to $100,000 and an additional play area on the back of the ticket. Nussbaum claimed one of six top prizes available in the game. An updated list of claimed and remaining Scratchers prizes can be found at MOLottery.com.
