Unplanned Purchase Leads to $10,000 Payout in Monroe City

When Tegan Garner walked into Buckman’s Convenience Store, 625 Highway 24 in Monroe City, she had planned to buy a specific Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket. However, it was her good fortune that the store didn’t have that particular ticket in stock, as “Plan B” led the 21-year-old to a $10,000 win on another game – “$3,000,000 Taxes Paid.”

“They were out of the $30 game,” she explained of the series of events that led to the lucky purchase. “A couple of people in front of me bought this ticket and didn’t win, so I hoped maybe the next one would.”

The strategy paid off, and Garner claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters the next day, still excited to share details about her unexpected win.

“The ‘WIN ALL’ symbol popped up, so I kept scratching, and they were all $500!” she said. “I freaked out and went back into the store and had them scan it, and she said I won $10,000! I couldn’t believe it.”

Garner plans to use her prize money to pay off debt.

“$3,000,000 Taxes Paid” is a $20 game that started May 18, 2015. In addition to top prizes of $3 million, taxes paid, the ticket offers more than a million other prizes that range from $20 to a taxes-paid $500,000. All remaining prizes can be tracked here.

All non-winning tickets are also eligible for entry into the “Points For Prizes” program through the My Lottery players club. The free program gives players the chance to turn non-winning tickets into points, which can be redeemed for a variety of merchandise items or drawing options.
