A Kansas City resident’s decision to pass the time with Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets while waiting for a prescription to be filled has earned him a $100,000 top prize. Jerry Brown was at Price Chopper, 937 NE Woods Chapel Road in Lee’s Summit, when he purchased some Scratchers tickets to cure his boredom.

“I won $100 on one game, cashed it in, bought another, won $50, cashed it in, and bought a ‘Diamond Dollars’ game,” began Brown. “I was playing that one and saw a ‘5X’ symbol. I figured it was just a $25 prize, so I went ahead and scratched the rest of the numbers on the front and back.”

To Brown’s surprise, the corresponding prize to the “5X” symbol was $20,000, resulting in a $100,000 top prize.

“I didn’t want to publicize it there at the store, so I just left, picked up my wife, and came straight here to the Lottery office to claim it,” said Brown.

A retired art teacher, the Kansas City resident disclosed that he likes to play the Lottery every week because he knows firsthand how profits from Lottery sales benefit public education across the state.

With the $100,000 prize, Brown and his wife, Carol, are looking forward to a vehicle upgrade and repainting their home, but they hope to keep a majority of the prize in savings for future use.

Diamond Dollars” is a $5 Scratchers game offering players more than $16 million in available prizes and an additional play area on the back of the ticket. Information for all Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets can be found here at MOLottery.com.
