A weekly ritual involving Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets has paid off with a $100,000 prize for a Kansas City resident. Every Sunday, Stephen Molloy, 49, goes grocery shopping at Brookside Sunfresh, 14 W. 62 Terrace in Kansas City, and purchases a handful of Scratchers tickets on his way out of the grocery store.

“Every Sunday, I let my dog out, sit on my back patio with a cold drink and play Scratchers tickets,” said Molloy.

Luck was on the restaurant manager’s side on Aug. 21 while at Brookside Sunfresh.

“I put money into one of their machines and wanted some of the ‘20X The Cash’ tickets, but they ran out, so I just picked the ‘$500 Frenzy’ tickets right next to those.”

Molloy would later uncover a $100,000 top prize on one of the “$500 Frenzy” tickets on his back porch.

While claiming his prize at the Lottery’s Kansas City regional office, Molloy disclosed that he and his buddies have an annual poker tournament with a $100 buy-in. Instead of using cash, Molloy and his friends use Scratchers tickets.

“I’m sure glad I wasn’t buying tickets for that,” he added.

With his prize, Molloy plans to pursue a lifelong dream of traveling to New Zealand in the near future.
$500 Frenzy” is a $5 Scratchers ticket that was officially introduced on Dec. 29, 2015. With more than $4.7 million in remaining prizes, Molloy claimed one of five $100,000 top prizes available in the game. Information regarding all Missouri Lottery games can be found here at MOLottery.com.
