$100,000 Prize to Purchase First Home in Chula

A stroke of luck and the shock of a Missouri Lottery Scratchers prize made a Chula resident’s knees buckle out on the farm. A daily Scratchers player, Christopher “Chris” Curd, 31, stopped by Trenton BP, 1904 E. 9th St. in Trenton, while on his way to work on Aug. 10.

“I bought a few Scratchers tickets and won $15, so I turned around and bought three $5 tickets,” said Curd, while claiming his prize on Aug. 10.

One of the tickets the crop and cattle farmer purchased – “Black Pearls” – contained a $100,000 top prize.

“I was on the farm when I scratched it. I think my knees buckled under me,” said Curd. “I called my boss, who told me I had better go take care of it before the day got busy.”

Curd signed the back of his $100,000 ticket, returned to the Trenton BP to check the ticket on the Lottery’s Check-A-Ticket machine, and traveled to the Lottery’s Kansas City regional office to claim his prize. It was still morning when Curd claimed his prize, but the father-of-two had already made up his mind on how he was going to spend his money.

“I figure I’ll buy me a house. It’ll probably be the farmhouse we are living in now.”
A $5 Scratchers game, “Black Pearls” was introduced on Feb. 29. Offering players prizes ranging from $5 to $100,000, the game currently has more than $6.2 million in remaining prizes. More information about all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be found here at MOLottery.com.
