Missouri Lottery Recognizes Responsible Gaming Education Month

For 13 years, the Missouri Alliance to Curb Problem Gambling has acknowledged August as Missouri’s Responsible Gaming Education Month, which encourages Missourians to play responsibly when they visit a Missouri casino and play Missouri Lottery games.

“As a founding member of the Alliance back in 1997, the Missouri Lottery is proud to support responsible gaming all year, while focusing on our efforts during this education month,” said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. “While it is the Lottery’s goal to raise money for public education, we strive to do so responsibly and to protect our players.”

On behalf of the Alliance, the Missouri Lottery has arranged for responsible gaming public service announcements to be aired via TV and radio across the state during August to increase the public’s awareness about the free help available through the Bets Off program. Additionally, the Lottery is holding employee training sessions throughout the month and overseeing an annual retailer integrity and responsibility program called Do The Right Thing.

“It’s important for both our employees and our retailers to be aware of the free help available in Missouri and to identify the warning signs associated with problem gambling,” said Reardon.

If the Missouri Lottery’s products become more than just games, the Lottery offers a self-exclusion program, in which players can voluntarily enroll. Problem gamblers and their loved ones can be connected to free help by calling 1-888-BETSOFF (1-888-238-7633), emailing freehelp@888betsoff.org or visiting 888betsoff.org.
