A $1 million winning Missouri Lottery ticket that was sold at a St. Louis restaurant belongs to one of the workers. Michael Carlson of Imperial claimed the $1 million winning Mega Millions ticket from the July 8 drawing. He purchased the $5 Quick Pick ticket at Schottzie’s Bar & Grill, 11428 Concord Village Ave., in St. Louis.

“Yeah, a $5 Quick Pick. That’s the only ticket I bought,” said Carlson, one of the managers at Schottzie’s. “I said, ‘Why not?’ when the tickets are that big. I really didn’t think this was going to happen.”

The Mega Millions jackpot on July 8 was $540 million. Carlson won $1 million by matching five white-ball numbers. The winning numbers were:  8, 19, 20, 55, 73, and the Mega Ball was 5. The winning jackpot ticket that night was sold in Indiana.

“When I checked mine (ticket), it said, ‘Cannot pay yet.’ So, I Googled the numbers, and I thought maybe I just matched the Mega Ball, but one after another kept coming up. I was like, ‘Oh, wow!’ It was unbelievable,” he recalled.

The money comes at a good time for the 39-year-old, who just got married a few months ago.

“Plan on investing most of it,” said Carlson, who said they would also pay down their cars and house.

He’ll keep working and playing the Lottery. Schottzie’s offers Club Keno, along with all Draw Games and good food.

“We’re famous for our pizza,” said Carlson of Schottzie’s. “We’re the only place in St. Louis that sells the brain sandwich. But we’re famous for our pizza.”

Schottzie’s Bar & Grill received a $1,000 bonus for selling a winning Match 5 ticket.

Mega Millions is a multi-state Draw Game with jackpots that start at $15 million and grow until someone wins. For an extra dollar at the time of purchase, players can add Megaplier to a ticket to win larger non-jackpot prizes. Even the Match 5 prize of $1 million is multiplied by a Megaplier number between one and five drawn along with the winning numbers.
