An O’Fallon man cleared all the Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets off his nightstand and decided to get some more. That’s how Gregory Lee ended up with a $100,000 prize, the 47-year-old assembler for Synergetics explained.

“I had a whole nightstand full, and then when I threw them in the garbage, I went to the store,” began Lee.

“I bought four of the vault, the ‘Cash Vault.’ The first one I scratched was a winner,” he continued. ”I was going to get another one, but they were out, so I told them, ‘Just give me four of those.’ I didn’t even the scratch the other tickets, but I won $15 on those.”

Lee originally thought he won $80,000 after scratching the ticket in his garage. He got hugs from the family, and he had the pleasant surprise of learning it was worth $100,000 when he claimed the prize at the St. Louis Lottery office on July 12.

“I was happy,” he said.

Plans for the windfall include paying bills and banking the rest. This was his first big win, and although he mentioned he may take a little break from playing, Lee said he’ll be back.

“I guess it paid off scratching all those Scratchers,” he said. “In order to win, you’ve got to play.”

Lee purchased his winning “Cash Vault” Scratchers ticket at On The Run, 4501 Highway K, in O’Fallon.

Cash Vault” is a $5 game that officially began Jan. 25. More than $6 million in prizes, including two top prizes of $100,000, remain in the game. Track prizes remaining for any Missouri Lottery Scratchers game here at MOLottery.com.
