A construction worker from Aurora is planning a family vacation after winning a $100,000 Missouri Lottery prize. John Erickson, 39, bought a winning “20X The Cash” Scratchers ticket at Casey’s General Store, 1601 E. Cleveland Ave, in Monett. He said he only stopped for sunglasses.

“I thought, ‘Why not?’ I bought two of them, lost on the first one. Started scratching off the second one and wow,” recalled Erickson about the moment he uncovered the $100,000 prize in the parking lot.

“Well, I was on the phone with my brother,” continued Erickson. “I was telling him he needed to help me figure this out. I’ve been thinking it was a dream all weekend.”

Erickson claimed his prize at the Springfield Lottery office on June 20. He kept the ticket in a safe the weekend before.

“It’s definitely going to better my family for years to come,” he said. “We’ll get my wife into a newer vehicle, pay off a little on the house, take care of some bills and go have a little fun with the kids.”

Erickson and his wife, Victoria, have six children.

“We’re going to buy all of us tickets to Lambeau Field and take the kids,” he declared. “We’re big Packer fans.”

Erickson said he’ll keep playing.

“My wife said, ‘We hit ours. We don’t have to play anymore.’ Well, I’m going to do it again,” he said with a laugh.

“I play mainly Scratchers and Powerball when it gets really big,” he said. “They’re out there. If you’re dreaming about it, one day your dreams will come true.”

20X The Cash” is a $5 game that officially began May 31. Erickson claimed the first top prize in the game. More than $14 million in prizes, including six top prizes, remain. Track prizes remaining for any Missouri Lottery Scratchers game here at MOLottery.com.
