JOPLIN WOMAN WINS $10,000 ON WAY TO COLLECT $1,000

A Joplin woman made her trip to redeem a $1,000 winning Missouri Lottery ticket more than worthwhile when she stopped to buy two more of the same tickets on the way and won $10,000. Dianne Haliburton, 42, said she and her husband, Ray, were on their way to the Springfield Missouri Lottery office on Aug. 28 to claim a $1,000 Scratchers prize she’d won on Aug. 22. On the way, they stopped at a convenience store to buy cigarettes, and they also bought two more tickets and ended up winning a $10,000 prize. They plan to use the prize money to get their car fixed and maybe sign up for the football package on Direct TV. Haliburton, who works at a day care facility, said she bought the first winning "Casino Action" Scratchers ticket, which was worth $1,000, at Quik Stop, 1930 Shifferdecker in Joplin. They bought the second winning "Casino Action" Scratchers ticket, worth $10,000, at Lacy’s II, 2602 Main in Joplin. "Casino Action," a $5 Scratchers game, officially went on sale Aug. 17.
