Story Photo Four digits from a phone number brought two brothers a total prize of $71,000 from the Jan. 26 Pick 4 drawing. Jesse Shelton, 52, of Desloge, claimed the prize, and he and his brother Roger Shelton, Park Hills, will share it. Their win was a result of both straight and straight/box Pick 4 plays using the numbers 1-3-1-8.
Shelton said he and his brother have been playing various Missouri Lottery games since the Lottery started in 1986. Jesse Shelton, a janitor for Mineral Area College in Park Hills, bought the tickets at three different locations: Ms. B’s Shell in Leadington; Kwik Way in Desloge; and T-Rex 3 in Park Hills.
Jesse Shelton and his wife, Lisa, plan to pay some bills with the winnings. They also might buy a van. Roger Shelton, who owns a drywall business, said he plans to buy a new truck with his share.
This isn’t the first time the brothers used digits from a phone number to win a lottery prize. In October 2001, Roger Shelton bought Pick 4 tickets using four numbers from a friend’s telephone number and won a $15,000 prize.
The Missouri Lottery’s Pick 4 game started on Nov. 2, 1998.
