CONTESTANTS WIN $127,500 IN SECOND WHEEL SPIN

Story Photo video icon A school bus driver from Mexico and a retiree from West Plains both added $50,000 to their finances after participating in the Missouri Lottery’s second "Fun & Fortune Wheel Spin" held at 2 p.m. Aug. 23 in Jefferson City. Vicki Murphy, 43, of Mexico and Barbara Collins, 58, of West Plains each landed on a $50,000 spot, in addition to the $500 they won by being a weekly finalist. Leota Cundiff, 57, of Brashear won $25,000 and Cheryl Nilges, 39, of Bland won $2,500 in the "Wheel Spin" event. Both women also received $500 as a weekly finalist. "We’re taking a cruise for our 25th (wedding) anniversary next month, so this will give us more spending money," Murphy said. Murphy purchased her qualifying ticket at Abel’s Quik Shop in Mexico. She had three entries in the July 26 weekly drawing, from which her name was selected as a weekly finalist and the "Wheel Spin" contestant. Sandra Pankey spun the wheel for her mom, Barbara Collins, and landed on $50,000. Collins, who is a retired nurses’ aide, said she plans to fix the roof on her trailer with the money and pay off a loan on some land. Collins purchased her qualifying ticket at Fast Serv Market in West Plains. She had two entries in the Aug. 16 drawing, from which her name was selected as a weekly finalist and a "Wheel Spin" contestant. Leota Cundiff, who works for Kraft Foods in Kirksville, said she’s not sure what she will do with her $25,500 prize money, but she said it "won’t be hard to spend." Cundiff had only one entry in the Aug. 2 weekly drawing. Cheryl Nilges said winning $3,000 in the weekly drawing and "Wheel Spin" was so much fun that she would like to do it again. Though she isn’t exactly sure what she will do with the winnings, she said she may buy her son the deer gun he has been wanting for his upcoming 12th birthday. Nilges’ entry was drawn on Aug. 9. She purchased her qualifying ticket at Bland Corner Market in Bland. The new "Fun & Fortune Wheel Spin" replaced the televised "Fun & Fortune" game show. For a chance to win $500 and a chance to spin the wheel, players need to buy a new $2 "Fun & Fortune" wheel spin Scratchers ticket. If the ticket is a winner and the prize is "ENTRY," the ticket should be mailed to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City to be placed in a weekly drawing. Each week, 10 of these "ENTRY" tickets will be drawn, and those winners will receive $500. In addition, one of these 10 preliminary winners will be drawn for a chance to spin the wheel and win up to $250,000. The smallest amount a player can win in the wheel spin is $2,500. The "Fun & Fortune Wheel Spin" is open to the public. It is also streamed on the Lottery’s Web site for players to watch from anywhere in the world.
