A Raytown man won $52,529 playing Club Keno on March 28 at Race Day Café, 7108 Ditzler Ave., in Raytown. James “Jim” Sowell, 68, won on an 8-spot ticket with Bulls-Eye using numbers he let the computer select. The base prize for using Bulls-Eye on an 8-spot is $50,000 and the progressive jackpot amount at the time was $2,529, resulting in a $52,529 windfall.

“I saw some of the numbers come up, and I thought it (prize) was more than $1,000,” he said. “When he told me the amount, I thought he was pulling my leg.”

Sowell, who owns Marble Restoration in Raytown, said the timing of his win was perfect.

“I just had a bunch of dental work done,” he said, stating he would use his prize money to pay for that.

But this wasn’t Sowell’s first big prize from the Missouri Lottery. He uncovered the first top prize worth $500,000 taxes paid on a Scratchers ticket by the same name on Valentine’s Day 2015. He purchased that winning ticket at Hy-Vee, 9400 E. 350 Highway, in Raytown.

“I bought my first new Indian (motorcycle) with that,” he said.

Club Keno offers a number of different ways to play and win. Players select numbers between one and 80, also called spots, and win prizes based on the number of matches.
