Truck Driver Hauls In $50,000 Lottery Win

Robert Jennings was going about his routine when he made his daily visit at The Corner, 824 E. Fairview Ave., in Carthage. The Corner is the store where Jennings, 71, likes to purchase his lottery tickets. The longtime Powerball player had never won anything greater than $20. That changed on March 16, when he matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball number to haul in a $50,000 win. The Carthage native said he was “a little nervous at first,” but he decided to continue with his truck route for the day.

“I didn’t tell anyone and went on about my business,” Jennings snickered. “I kept the ticket in my right shirt pocket.”

The father of seven and grandfather of 14 eventually did tell his wife and family. They were just as surprised as he was. Jennings said he was still in disbelief until he claimed his prize at the Springfield Lottery office.

“I’m going to pay some bills,” he added.

His advice to fellow Powerball players is “just keep playing.”

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game that features jackpots starting at $40 million. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Research all current and past winning numbers at MOLottery.com.
